The Canadian Quality Assurance® program is a positive, proactive, and practical on-farm program to address safe food issues. The principles of CQA® are based on producer education and awareness, as producers develop a set of documented standards known as "Good Production Practices". Farmers measure their own standards compared to the Good Production Practices outlined in the reference manual as they complete the CQA® "On-Farm Quality Assessment Form".

Today's consumers expect the highest quality food products. The Canadian food industry is responding by implementing quality assurance programs at each link in the food chain. Federal meat processing plants are doing their part as many are implementing Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point or HACCP systems, an international approach to addressing food safety issues. Processors are now looking to their suppliers to implement similar systems. The objective is to have quality assurance programs throughout every step of production, from the farm right through to the consumer.
